How does CASS work on dividends?
6 minimum wages — entry threshold
Below 24.300 RON (6 minimum wages) of cumulated non-salary income, CASS is not mandatory on dividends. You may insure voluntarily if you have no other source of medical coverage.
12 minimum wages — intermediate base
Between 24.300 RON and 48.600 RON, the CASS base is 24.300 RON. Between 48.600 RON and 97.200 RON, the base rises to 48.600 RON (CASS = 4.860 RON).
24 minimum wages — upper ceiling
Above 97.200 RON, the CASS base is capped at 97.200 RON. The maximum CASS owed is 9.720 RON per year, regardless of how large the dividends are.
CAS does not apply
Unlike salaries (CAS 25%) or freelancers (PFA), dividends do NOT generate pension contributions. Shareholders who pay themselves exclusively through dividends do not accrue pension seniority.
